Prostitution As A Metric Of Psychosexual Health

No, I haven’t done a 180 on my views of prostitution: I’m still against it (if only for financial reasons). But I’m positing that the “oldest profession” might be a solid metric for a society’s mental state.

This is an idea that I’ve been toying with recently, based on two things that occurred recently. The first came, oddly enough, listening to a professional wrestling podcast. In said podcast the venerable Jim Cornette related an anecdote about how, while working the Mid-South territory around 1985, several wrestlers found themselves utterly incapable of finding a hooker. In New Orleans. This is of course around the time that the Gulf of Mexico oil industry crashed, torpedoing the local economies.

As Mr. Cornette put it, when you can’t find a hooker in New Orleans…that might be a negative omen.

The other incident that occurred was my using a public bathroom and discovering the ubiquitous “Looking for a good time?” message and accompanying phone number. Out of sheer monkey-like curiosity, I decided to google search the phone number (…don’t judge me), and inevitably it was indeed for a lady of the night. A very busted looking, heavy set lady of the night who still had the audacity to charge 200 for an hour.

(For legal purposes, I’m not linking or posting the picture, of course. As a note to any law enforcement reading, all this info was obtained solely from visiting websites. I have no interest in solicitation; please for the love of god do not arrest me for solicitation.)

So I started thinking: Jim Cornette already uses prostitution as a metric to judge socioeconomic health. Thus I think something similar could very easily be done—namely, judging male thirst and desperation based on the quality of prostitutes that men are willing to sleep with.

So paying a visit to a series of websites I won’t name (once more, it came up in research, jackass), I looked at a bunch of whores from my home state of New Jersey (again, pictures will not be provided, as I would not to incriminate any of the ladies).

The results were…not good.

While several of the women were presentable…there were many women who were noticeably heavyset, several women who were getting on in years, and some who were just plain unattractive. Compare this to some archival photos of hookers from the 1930s—while I understand that this comparison falls somewhat flat when I can only provide pictures of one group, I can assure you that the working girls of a century ago are far better looking than the ones today. Hell, they look better than at least 20% of the regular women you see on the street!

With all this being said, I do not have the slightest doubt that these women today (at least the ones who post online) make a pretty decent living, working independently (ie: no pimp or anything like that) as they do. Because that is how thirsty the average American man is today. He’s so thirsty and so socially retarded he can’t even seduce a mediocre woman for free, he has to pay for it. While I on a moral level don’t have an issue with prostitution, I am a cheapskate, and I feel that in a healthy society men wouldn’t need to hire them (while it would still be legal ultimately).

If you want further proof of this, look at how many prostitutes today report that many of their clients aren’t merely looking for sex, but rather for the “girlfriend experience” of kissing, cuddling, and the like. And sometimes, not even sex at all, just the cuddling and emotional intimacy.

But as the next article will show, America’s societal unhealth is only half reflected in the dismal quality of the modern hooker.  The prevalence of “soft prostitution” is a much greater cause of alarm, and will be discussed next week.
