New to the Larsensphere: poetry narration! Presented today, The Gods of the Copybook Heading by Rudyard Kipling.
“Larsen, what the hell are you doing?” you might be asking. I am a fan of poetry and prose, and as you know I have in fact started writing for literary magazines Atop the Cliffs and Terror House. I also used to work as a radio DJ, so me and Arthur Powell of the former literary magazine have been in talks for me to do some poetry readings. And that brings us to here.
Kipling’s one of my favorite poets, Gods of the Copybook Heading is one of my favorite poems, so take a listen to my narration. More poems will come in the future, perhaps some short story narrations as well—maybe some of my own writing in the future.
For those not aware, Gods of the Copybook Heading was written by Kipling in 1919, and it is a very grim poem that essentially states that humanity, when given the choice between ugly truths and beautiful lies, will always choose the beautiful lies…until society collapses due to the repeated choosing of the beautiful lies and people will have to turn to the ugly truths. Not coincidentally, his son and youngest child had died at Loos a few years earlier.
These narration videos will not supersede the regular video content—if anything, I’m going to try to do 2 videos a week from henceforth, on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Music: Siegfried’s Funeral March from Gotterdammerung by Richard Wagner (main body of the video) and Nocturne Opus #9 by Frederic Chopin for the intro.
